Wha is the safest crypto exchange to keep my funds secure?

I’m looking to buy bitcoin with some extra cash as a long term buy and forget type of investment. I was planning to use Binance, but unfortunately it's not avilable in Texas. Can you recommend a good crypto exchange? The most important thing for me is that it’s reliable and operates legally in the US (and specifically in Texas). It would also be great if it had low fees. If you were just starting out, which crypto trading platform would you go for?

You should really get a crypto wallet and move your crypto there. The number one rule in crypto is to never leave your coins on an exchange. You don’t actually control them if you don’t hold the keys. If the exchange crashes or gets hacked, your coins are at risk too.
